The Trias drilling for geothermal  project Trias Westland in Naaldwijk, The Netherlands, started a month ago. The drilling of the first section went well. In the first days it proved to be a challenge to control the drill head in the limestone formation. It was difficult to maintain an angle of 30 degrees in the soft rock containing hard flintstone. For this reason the drilling of this secton took more time than anticipated.

Monday, November 6th, the Trias drilling will start! The drill bit was initiated on Friday in the presence of  participating companies, shareholders and residents. On the 6th of November, the first hole, known as spud in the oil and gas industry, is drilled. From now on, Trias Westland will be operating 24/7!

TISA 3D is a state-of–the-art, patented and revolutionary technology which needs to be brought to deep oil and gas reservoirs in order to maximize oil and gas recovery. These measurements will increase the data density of these reservoirs immensely. Based on the Proof of Concept performed by Delft University of Technology, the technology can be used successfully in oil and gas reservoirs for different applications like monitoring, geosteering and wireline logging.

While most people were on vacation, the preparations for the geothermal drillings of the Trias Westland project have continued all summer. The conductors for both the production (of hot water) and the injection (of cooled down water) well have been installed succesfully. Conductors are safety casings with a legth of 125 meters which prevent potential contamination of the acquifers. The construction of the drilling location is ongoing and the location is expected to be ready early October 2017.

30% of industrial heat demand could be provided by Ultra Deep Geothemal Power. On June 19th, the Dutch Ministries of Economics, Infrastructure and the Environment, EBN, TNO and seven consortiums of companies have signed the Green Deal for Ultra Deep Geothermal Power (UDG). This is an important step for mapping the possibilities Of UDG in The Netherlands and further develop technology. T&A Survey just completed a research project on the potential and risks of UDG in The Netherlands.

On May 10th the official green light was given for the Trias Westland geothermal project. A group of 49 (greenhouse) entrepreneurs will be drilling to a depth of four kilometres for geothermal heat, which they will use to heat up their greenhouses and buildings in a sustainable and financially stable way.  It is the first time such deep drillings for geothermal energy are made in The Netherlands. The preparations at the drilling location in Naaldwijk have already started.

Drone IR spectrometry can add significant value to environmental surveys such as crop and drought monitoring, slope stability and landslides and the determination of the chemical and/or mineralogical composition of environmental pollutants. Measurements can be taken from surface but also, more efficiently, from the air. Using drones instead of manned aircrafts for airborne surveys allows us to collect data from a lower altitude, resulting in improved detail and quality. At the same time the use of drones reduces the cost of airborne surveys considerably.  

In 2017 T&A Survey Drone Services performed a photogrammetric drone survey for a regional water authority. The goal of the drone survey was to map a secondary channel of the river Vecht by performing an photogrammetric revision analysis covering the entire area. Since the research area is about 2 km long, the client decided the best way to perform the survey was from the air.

Infrared (IR) thermography is a no-contact technique for measuring the surface temperature of a body or an object. By attaching a thermographic infrared camera to a drone, T&A Survey drone Services can detect temperature contrasts from the air, making it a particularly suitable technology for the inspection of solar pannels.
