Last week, geothermal project Trias Westland lifted a 30-meter drill core (piece of stone) from the reservoir section at a depth of almost 4 km. This was done using a special hollow drill bit. The core provides an enormous amount of information about the composition and properties of the Triassic layer. The operation is mainly financed by a European subsidy program (Destress). The core has already been taken to a lab for further analysis. TNO, universities and other institutions will also investigate the core. Fact: the journey of the drill core upwards took 22 hours!
