Archaeological surveys

Inshore and offhore surveys often have more than one goal, combining geophysical research of archaeological remains or explosives, depth measurements, environmental survey or inspection with divers. By combining these surveys, T&A provides a complete picture of the seabed in a more efficient way, saving both time and costs. For combined survey T&A works together with  ADC Maritiem (marine archaeology) and Baars-CIPRO (diving and water bottom research).

Combining measurement data

Hydrographic and geophysical data can show local deviations in water depth, geomagnetic field and transition of layers of the water bottom. These can be caused by UXO, a ship wreck or other obstacles. Combining measurement results makes it easier to find the cause of the deviation. The main advantages of combined research are:

  • A better coordination of the various types of desk and field investigations,
  • The more efficient use of measurement techniques for more than one research goal,
  • One point of reference and one single report that includes all information without contradictions.

Based on the results, further research using boreholes and divers can take place if necessary. Sometimes the extra information shows that no further research is needed. Also, the chances of an unexpected encounter with objects of archaeological value during regular activities become smaller. In both cases this means saving a lot of expenses.
